Nowadays - Life Journal
Last updated 24 September 2026 · Nordbox, Beirut, Lebanon
Nowadays is a private journal. It's built so that your moments stay yours: we don't run servers that store your data, we don't track you, and we don't show ads. This policy explains, in plain words, what the app handles, where it's kept, and what you can do about it.
In this policy, "Nowadays", "we" and "us" means Nordbox, the developer of the Nowadays app for iPhone. "You" means the person using the app.
The short version
- We don't collect your data. Nothing you log in Nowadays is sent to us or to any server we run.
- Your moments live on your iPhone and in your own private iCloud. We can't see them, read them or access them.
- No tracking, no ads, no analytics. The app contains no advertising or analytics tools and doesn't follow you across other apps or websites.
- You're in control. You can erase everything from inside the app at any time.
1. What you keep in Nowadays
When you use Nowadays, you may add:
- Moments: titles, notes, dates and times, the kind of moment, ratings, amounts and currencies, and moods.
- Photos, videos and voice notes that you attach to a moment.
- Places: the name, address and map position of a place you pick, or a private place you name yourself, like "Home".
- People: names, photos and how you know them, if you add people and tag them on moments.
- Goals and badges: the goals you set and the rewards you earn.
- Your profile: your name, a profile photo, your birthday (optional), your app settings (such as your background, currency and reminder times), and how many of your free moments you've used.
Where it's kept
All of this is stored in two places only:
- On your iPhone, inside the app.
- In your own private iCloud account, using Apple's iCloud (CloudKit private database), so it syncs between your devices and comes back if you reinstall the app or get a new iPhone.
Your private iCloud database belongs to your Apple Account. We have no access to it. Apple stores and protects it under Apple's Privacy Policy. If you've turned on Advanced Data Protection for iCloud, your Nowadays data is end-to-end encrypted along with the rest of your iCloud data.
If iCloud is turned off on your device, your data stays only on your iPhone.
2. Signing in with Apple
Nowadays uses Sign in with Apple to recognise you on your devices. When you sign in:
- Apple gives the app an anonymous identifier for your account, which stays on your iPhone.
- The first time only, Apple may share the name on your Apple Account, which the app uses to greet you. You can change it at any time in the app.
- Nowadays does not ask Apple for your email address.
We don't receive or keep any of this on our side.
3. Permissions the app may ask for
Nowadays only asks for a permission when you use the feature that needs it, and you can change your answer any time in your iPhone's Settings.
| Permission | What it's used for |
|---|---|
| Location (while using the app) | To show nearby places first when you search for a place. Your location isn't stored unless you choose to save a place on a moment. |
| Camera | To take a photo for a moment. |
| Microphone | To record a voice note on a moment. |
| Add to Photos | To save photos, videos or share cards to your photo library when you ask. |
| Notifications | To send the reminders you turn on, a note on your birthday, and a reminder the day before a free trial ends. |
When you pick photos or videos from your library, you choose exactly which ones, and the app only sees those.
4. When information leaves your iPhone
Your data only leaves your iPhone in the following cases. None of them involve servers we run.
- iCloud sync. Your data is saved to your own private iCloud, as described above.
- Searching for a place. When you type a place name, your search (and, if you allowed it, your approximate location) is sent to Apple Maps to find matching places. This is handled by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Opening a place in Google Maps. If you tap a place to see it on a map, it opens in the Google Maps app or website with that place's name and address. What happens there is covered by Google's Privacy Policy.
- Sharing a moment. Nothing is shared unless you choose to. When you share, the app creates an image (and, for some apps, a short line of text) and hands it to the app you pick, such as Messages, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook or X. To share to Instagram or Facebook Stories, the image is briefly placed on your iPhone's clipboard, as those apps require. Once shared, it's covered by that app's own privacy policy.
- Finding the app's App Store link. So that shared moments can include a link to Nowadays, the app asks Apple's public App Store directory whether Nowadays is listed in your country. This request contains only the app's identifier and your country or region, and nothing about you.
- Subscriptions. Purchases, free trials and renewals are handled entirely by Apple. The app only learns whether you're subscribed, which plan you're on, and when it renews, so it can unlock features and show your subscription details. We never see your payment details.
5. Things Nowadays does not do
- It doesn't collect analytics or usage statistics.
- It doesn't show ads or use advertising identifiers.
- It doesn't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- It doesn't sell, rent or share your personal information with anyone.
- It doesn't include third-party analytics, advertising or tracking tools.
6. Home Screen widgets and reminders
- Widgets show a small summary, such as your streak, how many moments you've logged today, and your nearest goal. This summary is kept in a small file on your iPhone that only Nowadays and its widgets can read.
- Reminders and notifications are created and sent by your iPhone itself. No server is involved.
7. Keeping and deleting your data
Your data stays until you delete it.
- Erase everything from the app: go to You → Settings → Erase all data. This permanently deletes all your moments (with their photos, videos, voice notes and places), people, goals, badges, your profile photo and your birthday, from your iPhone and from your iCloud. To keep the free-moment allowance fair, the app keeps a record of how many free moments have been used, along with your name and app settings. You can change your name at any time.
- Delete a single moment or person from inside the app at any time.
- Deleting the app removes the copy on your iPhone. Your iCloud copy stays, so it can come back if you reinstall. To remove it too, use Erase all data before deleting the app, or manage your iCloud storage in your iPhone's Settings.
- Your subscription is managed and cancelled in your Apple Account settings. Cancelling doesn't delete your data.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR in Europe or the CCPA in California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or move your personal data.
Because your Nowadays data is stored on your devices and in your own iCloud, you already hold and control it directly: you can view, edit and delete everything inside the app. We don't hold a copy that we could provide or delete for you. If you have any question about your data, contact us (see below) and we'll help.
9. Children
Nowadays isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children included. Everything logged in the app stays on the person's own devices and iCloud.
10. Security
Your data is protected by your iPhone's own security (your passcode, Face ID or Touch ID) and by Apple's iCloud security. We don't have a server that could be breached, because we don't store your data.
11. Changes to this policy
If Nowadays changes how it handles information, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll also mention it in the app's release notes.
