NeoPixel Photo Editor

Last updated 24 September 2026 · Nordbox, Beirut, Lebanon

NeoPixel is made by Nordbox, Beirut, Lebanon. Questions about privacy: hello@nordbox.co

This policy covers NeoPixel for iPhone, iPad and Mac. It is written to be read, not skipped.

1. The short version

  • NeoPixel edits your photos on your own device. There is no account and no sign-in.
  • Your photos are never uploaded to us or to anyone else. The app's AI features run on your device.
  • Where NeoPixel reads the faces in a photo to retouch them, that face data never leaves your device and is never saved.
  • Your projects are kept on your device, or in your own iCloud if you use it. We cannot open them.
  • We collect nothing. We have no servers, no advertising and no analytics. On the App Store, NeoPixel is listed as Data Not Collected.

Everything below explains this in full, including the few cases where anything leaves your device.

2. What we collect

Nothing. NeoPixel does not send us your photos, your edits, your name, your email address, your location or anything else. We have no way to see what you do in the app.

3. Your photos

  • NeoPixel only opens what you give it. On iPhone and iPad you choose photos with Apple's photo picker, which shows the app only the photos you pick, not your whole library. On a Mac, it can only open the files you choose or drop in.
  • Saving only adds. When you save a finished photo to your photo library on iPhone or iPad, NeoPixel asks only for permission to add photos. That does not let it see anything else in your library.
  • Your originals are never changed. Edits are applied to a copy. Exporting creates a new file.
  • Photo details stay on your device. Photos contain hidden details, such as the camera used or where they were taken. NeoPixel reads these only on your device and does not send them anywhere.

4. Your projects and iCloud

A project is a photo plus the edit settings you applied to it (for example, how much brightness or skin smoothing). NeoPixel saves your projects so you can come back to them.

  • With iCloud: if you are signed in to iCloud with iCloud Drive on, projects are saved in NeoPixel's private folder in your own iCloud account, so they appear on your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account. This is your storage, under your Apple Account. We cannot open it and we are never sent a copy.
  • Without iCloud: projects stay on the device.
  • Deleting: deleting a project in the app removes it from the device and from iCloud, on all your devices. There is no limit on how many projects you keep, and none are removed without you.
  • Deleting the app: what the app kept on the device goes with it. Anything it kept in your iCloud stays there until you delete it, which you can also do in your device's iCloud settings.

5. Artificial intelligence

NeoPixel uses artificial intelligence to remove objects and fill in what was behind them, to recover detail (Neo Lens), and to find people, hair and body shapes for the retouching tools.

  • It runs on your device. The AI models are built into the app and use your device's own chip. Your photos are never sent to a server to be processed.
  • It does not learn from you. Your photos are not used to train any model.
  • It works without the internet.

6. Face data

NeoPixel offers face retouching: smoothing skin, brightening eyes, gently reshaping a face. To put those edits in the right place, the app uses Apple's on-device Vision framework to find where the faces are in the photo you are editing: the outline of each face, and the position of the eyes, eyebrows, nose, mouth and jawline.

  • It is used for one thing only: placing your edits on the right part of the photo.
  • It never leaves your device. It is processed entirely on your device, and is never sent to us, to Apple, or to any third party.
  • It is not stored. It is kept in your device's memory only while the photo is open, and is discarded when you close the photo or quit the app. It is not saved in your projects, in iCloud, or anywhere else. It is simply found again the next time you open the photo. Your projects remember the edits you chose, such as how much smoothing, but never the face itself.
  • It does not identify anyone. NeoPixel does not recognise or identify people, does not create face templates or face prints, does not compare one face with another, and does not use face data for signing in, advertising, analytics or any other purpose.

The same is true of the outlines of people, hair and bodies that the body tools use: found on your device while the photo is open, used only to place your edits, and never saved or sent.

7. The few things that can leave your device

7.1 Purchases

NeoPixel is free to download, with one free export a day. A one-time purchase unlocks unlimited exports. Apple handles the payment. We never see your card, your address or your Apple Account. Apple tells us only how many people bought and from which countries, never who they are. When NeoPixel checks or restores your purchase, it asks Apple, not us.

The count of your free daily export is kept on your device only.

7.2 Location and weather stickers (only if you add one)

In Annotate you can add a sticker showing a place or the weather. Nothing happens unless you add one.

  • Your location is optional. If you allow it, the app uses your location once to fill in the place name. If you say no, you can type a place instead. The app does not track your location or check it again later.
  • Place names come from Apple. To turn a location into a place name, or a typed place into a location, the app uses Apple's map service, as the Maps app does.
  • Weather needs a position. To show the weather, the app sends two numbers, the latitude and longitude, to a weather service (Open-Meteo), which sends back the temperature and conditions. Nothing else goes with them: no photo, no name, no account. Like any website, the weather service can see the internet address the request came from.

7.3 Crash reports, through Apple

If you have agreed to share analytics with Apple, Apple may send us crash reports so we can fix problems. They reach us grouped together and without your name. You can turn this off at any time: on iPhone and iPad in Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Analytics & Improvements, on a Mac in System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Analytics & Improvements.

7.4 The diagnostic log, only if you send it

NeoPixel keeps a short log on your device of what the app did (for example, which tool was opened, or that an export failed), plus the app version, your device model and system version. It helps us fix bugs. It never contains your photos, face data, the names of your files or the words of your captions.

It never leaves your device on its own. You can export it yourself (iPhone and iPad: About & Credits ▸ Export Diagnostic Log; Mac: Help ▸ Export Diagnostic Log…) and choose to send it to us with a bug report. If you do, we use it only to fix the problem, and delete it when you ask.

8. Screenshot protection

Before NeoPixel is unlocked, screenshots and screen recordings of the photo you are editing show a watermark. The app only notices that a screenshot or recording happened, which iOS and macOS report to every app. It does not see, keep or send the screenshot.

9. Permissions

NeoPixel asks only when a feature you are using needs it:

PermissionWhen it is askedWhy
Photos (add only, iPhone and iPad)When you first save to PhotosTo save your finished photo
Photos (Mac)When you open a photo from your libraryTo open the photo you chose
LocationWhen you add a location stickerTo fill in the place name

Saying no is always allowed, and the rest of the app keeps working. You can change your mind later in Settings (iPhone and iPad) or System Settings (Mac), under Privacy & Security.

10. What we never do

  • We do not sell your information, to anyone.
  • We do not upload your photos to be processed.
  • We do not show advertising or use advertising trackers.
  • We do not follow you across other apps or websites.
  • We do not build a profile of you.
  • We do not recognise or identify anyone from their face.
  • We do not use your photos to train artificial intelligence.

11. Children

NeoPixel is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect anything from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, write to us and we will delete it.

12. Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us what we hold about you, ask for a copy, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to hello@nordbox.co and we will reply within 30 days, usually within one. Most of the time the honest answer will be that we hold nothing, because the app never sent us anything.

13. Changes to this policy

If we change how NeoPixel handles your information, we update this policy first and change the date at the top. If the change is significant, the app will tell you the next time you open it.
